Duffy Award by Sosiua

Today at school we had reading. We were reading a book called ANZACs at Galipolli and we had to look for the definition for every word we didn't know. While searching we discovered there were multiple definitions for some of the words. We had to  pick one and give a reason for our choice.

I gave sensible reasons why I chose the meaning to lots of words.

Then we had lunch and played outside and then the bell rang and everyone went to the multi purpose room for our whole school assembly. When we were at the assembly the first thing we did was sing the New Zealand national anthem.

After that the prefects talked about being safe around roads, listening to your teacher and more. Lastly, we then had our Duffy awards and I received one.  I was so surprised and I got to choose a book to take home and read.

πŸ₯‡Duffy Award!!πŸ₯‡ by Saluselo

On Monday, we had a whole school assembly as usual. One of the items that occur is when Mrs Vickers gives out the Duffy books and certificate to the pupils who have been doing well in their reading, writing or other subjects.

She called out the room numbers one by one: 9, 10,11 and 12. It was their turn to receive the Duffy books. The teachers had a good think about who they were going to chose. Finally,  Mr Reid picked Mary and Mrs Golder picked Saluselo which is me because I did well in my reading. I moved up a reading group as well as my reading level.

When I went up to get my award, I felt nervous. This is my 5th Duffy book award. Afterwards, Mrs Vickers congratulated me by shaking my hand and gave me a Spirit Animals book which is my favourite book.

When I looked at my book, I thought to myself, 'now I have two books like these.' I was proud of myself for doing well!

πŸ… First Award For Term 2!! πŸ… by Jack

On Monday, there was quite a special assembly. This was because it was the first time back to school after the Term 1 holidays ended for 2017.

Over the holidays, there were two very important events. Easter Day and Anzac day. Anzac Day was important to us because we had learnt about the topic and even had our own special ceremony in the multi-purpose room.

Sadly, I couldn't attend the ceremony because I had left early. Anyway, after we sang our national anthem, three special people from specific classes (Rooms 1, 11 and 12) were called up to the front of the audience and received a book and a certificate.

I was one of the students who earned a book and a certificate. The book was called D-Day, which was based on World War Two. After school, I read the first five chapters of the story. It's a really interesting narrative, that involves a lot of complex vocabulary.

I'm looking forward to reading more of the story in my free time and find out what will happen in the conclusion.

Back At School! by Athens

We are finally back at school again and I'm a year 8 now! We started school on February the 1st which was on a Wednesday. It is also Waitangi Day on Monday and that means a three day weekend. Lucky us!

Mr Reid and Mrs Golder started teaching together. It is a new experience for me since I've never had two teachers. It's quite exciting actually.

On Wednesday Mrs Golder picked me to get a new Duffy book and the reason was because of my 'Who Am I?' story. Then on Friday I received a Principles Award for it. I am getting off on a great start!

Duffy Award by Tyla

On Monday I received a Duffy book for scoring 10/10 in my reading test with Mrs Golder. Mrs Vickers had said to choose a boy and a girl although Mrs Golder chose me and Athens instead. I got to personally pick out my book since I received what was suppose to be the boys book. In the end I chose a book  titled 'Beswitched'. It's really interesting so far - about a girl who was summoned by girls from the past on her way to her new boarding school. And I am really glad to have received this award, because it's probably the best book Iv'e read in a long time.

First Day Back by Athens

Last week was the first week back at school. I was really excited to come back to school and see my friends but I was also very sad that we had to come back to school. The first day back I felt very weird mostly because I haven't seen my classmates and my teacher for two whole weeks! We also had an assembly and Mrs Golder picked me to receive a Duffy book. The reason was because I read in the holidays. The book is called 39 Clues - it's an investigation book and inside it there were six cards that I had to use to figure out the mystery. I really enjoyed the book!

Duffy Award goes to Miria!

On Monday I received a Duffy award for Caught Being Good. I received two books as well as a certificate, that stated that I “had excellent comprehension skills”. The title of my books are ‘Camp Rock’ and ‘SOMUCH2DO.’  I was surprised that I was chosen to receive the award. I was applauded by the whole school. I was asked to stay up at the front of the assembly and I was acknowledged by Mrs Vickers for my role as a Manaiakalani Ambassador.
