Y8 Graduation 2016

The end has come. The Year 8s have graduated from Ruapotaka School today.

A farewell note to the students in Room 12.

To Tyla, you always tried your best to be the best and you did it.
To Maranatha, your role as producer and director of 'The Focuser' has made this movie the best R12 movie ever.
To Heilala, you have a sensible attitude and you have been an excellent role model for younger children at Ruapotaka.
To Anavea, your role of writing the date and notices on the board daily helped organise my day and gave the class direction.
To Pallas, the hours you spent editing 'The Focuser' until it was all perfect is a credit to your patience and perseverance.
To Sophie-Isabella, you were a great Manaiakalani Ambassador.
To Quros, you were my creative artist who I relied on for all those 'Thank You' cards you made for the school's sponsors and 'The Focuser' logo.
To Samuel, you proved you tried your hardest in the interschool competitions when you came back cut, bruised and injured from Athletics and with Maranatha wearing a moon boot as well.
To Mele, the speed in which you completed your Inquiry learning has set a new R12 record.
To Aydrian, you understood my headaches more than any other student. You could be right - "drinking too much coffee". HAHAHA.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
Mrs Golder

R12 Manaiakalani Movie by Maranatha, Pallas and Anavea

Thoughts were shared, decisions were made. Walking up and down hills and hearing students moan because we had to repeat scenes were challenges we faced. It took time and  effort to complete it.

Our movie is related to our Olympic Inquiry Learning from Term 3.

It is about a drink, fresh from Ruapotaka School tap that gives you energy, is a mixture that gives you less cravings, better digestion,  ability to concentrate more -  that’s just by drinking it.

Where's Mrs Golder? by Heilala

On Monday, Mrs Golder was absent. Everyone was asking each other, "Where's Mrs Golder?" After fitness Mrs Vickers came down to split us up. I was  put into Room 9. It was very odd without Mrs Golder. Everything was messy because we were use to Mrs Golder's routine. While I was in Room Nine, Tyla and I taught a few maths strategies to Room Nine. We thought to ourselves "Why not teach the class a more efficient way to solve a maths problem." While teaching the students we noticed that they were enjoying themselves. Miss Misela had a really big smile on her face because her class was learning year 8 maths strategies. I quite enjoyed being in Room 9 for the day and I hope that all the other classes did too.

Just Doing My Job by Quros

"Just Doing My Job"
This afternoon I helped my friends Heilala and Sophie-Isabella create a video for Netball. It was fun, funny and annoying because we kept on restarting our video over and over again. When we finished we were impressed then we took a photo. After we went back to class and showed our teacher ( Mrs Golder ), she was impressed too.

Fruit Kebab Movie by Anavea

Two weeks ago we were put into two teams to make a movie about Healthy Foods.

We had to make a movie that was about two minutes long. Before we could make it we had to plan out what we were going to be doing. It took us about three days to plan it. When that was done we had to practice our lines. All of us had about three days to practice our lines, before we could start making our movie.

Heilala and I brought in some fruits to use for our kebabs.Once the movie was made we were able to add music to the storyboard. We had about five days to do this. Once that was done we had to publish it. Well done!

Last Softball Experience by Heilala

2016 Softball Team!!

Yesterday I went to a softball tournament with a few year eight and seven students. These students are Maranatha, Anavea, Suliasi, Timote Jr, Sophie Isabella, Quros, Samuel, Sione, Min Zin, Mele and Mika. It was held at the Dunkirk Reserve.

I thought Mika Sefo was our top player. I thought his batting was on point and his catching was marvelous.  I also thought that everyone did well during our games.

We won 2 games against St Patrick's and Panmure Bridge, but sadly we lost 3 games to Sylvia Park, Glenbrae and Point England Black.

Although we came 7th I am proud to have had participated in our softball inter-school sports competition. I had fun at softball.

Receiving My Monitor's Badge by Heilala

Yay! On Monday I had just received another Monitor's badge.  All the Monitors' badges were for some of Room 12 and 11 students. Our badge is basically anything that involves monitoring work . I am proud to have another Monitor's badge. If you are one of the students that received a badge then you should be proud to have it.
Congratulations 2016 Monitors!!

Welcoming The New Prefects by Heilala

On Wednesday we had our first assembly for 2016. Mrs Vickers had a special announcement.  She left the announcement  to the end. Once she got all her notices out of  the way, next was the SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!! The special news was  that there were going to be new prefects.  Before she said the new prefect names she got Quros and I to say  a few things on how to become a good prefect. Finally, we finished talking and it was Mrs Vickers turn. The new prefects are Meana Min Zin and Sione. I was in shock when my brother was called to become a new prefect. Congratulations to the new prefects!

Senior Syndicate Assembly

Syndicate Assembly
Yesterday, Monday the 7th of September 2015 Room 12 once again were assigned to host the Syndicate Assembly.
First we had to have someone to be the ‘Master of Ceremony’ which in other words is the ‘Chief Host’. Miria volunteered to be the organiser.
For our main attraction we had a Talent Quest performed by a group of people from each senior syndicate class.
We had four judges including Kolotina, Mika, Miria and myself.
At the end of the Talent Quest it was a tie with first place Room 9 and Room 11. In second place Room 10, and Room 12 at third. Sini and Melelose represented our class.
It was really fun and it seemed that our audience enjoyed our presentation.
By Elizabeth.

First place (tie): Room 9 and

Room 11

In second place: Room 10

In third place: Room 12

Inter-school Netball Competition 2015

Schools all ready, referees steady, the whistles blow like a confetti. We versed heaps of schools. We won all our games but unfortunately we lost in the finals against Sylvia Park School. Even though we didn’t come first we were all overjoyed. We came second. Yay!   At the end of the day we did our school proud.
